Ein Hut für den echten Kenner – das berühmte Original, der Montecristi Panamahut

Der Hut wird als das typischste nationale Handwerksprodukt Ecuadors angesehen und wird im Spanischen auch „Jipijapa“ genannt.   

Der Name ist darauf zurückzuführen, dass viele Arbeiter des Panamakanals diesen Hut trugen.   

Noch heute wird der traditionell aus Toquilla-Palmblättern hergestellte Hut gerne im Alltag und zu festlichen Anlässen getragen und verdient es daher, als immaterielles Kulturgut bewahrt zu werden Seit 2012.!
